personal choice of subject or medium is, we swap ideas, have a natter and
tea/coffee, all very informal.
Our tutor Celia Jayne a very accomplished local artist, who is on hand to
give help and practical advice.
Our 2006 sessions commenced on 4th
January
Padstow Art Group, PAG as its known
came into existence more than
27 years ago as a result of a number of craft shows that were
staged at St Petroc's Church Padstow.
One of the organisers Bill Lindsey, a retired shipwright realised
there were a considerable number of local people who had amongst
other things a talent for painting.
At this time there was a professional artist Jim Lennon who was
involved in running a local art shop, together he and Bill organised
an art class which was so successful that it became established as
Padstow Painting Group. After many years of ups and downs, various
venues and the passing of both Bill and Jim the few remaining
members resolved to keep the group going.
The name was changed to Padstow Art Group, new tutors offered their
skills, interest grew, membership eventually reaching 50 plus..
Exhibitions were held and became very popular with visitors. But
alas as happens, things became too big and differences of opinion
came into the equation, the group split, many of the original
members remained with PAG and form a very robust society today.
The group now stages just two public exhibitions per year, the first
over the Spring Bank Holiday week and then again during the two
weeks over the August Bank Holiday.
Admission is free with proceeds
from the donation bowls, given to local charities including
Cornwall First Air Ambulance, Cancer Care charities, Local medical
services and other charities.
The group meet at the Memorial Hall South Quay Padstow each Tuesday
evening at 6-30pm and welcomes new members.
If you are interested in painting
